The motif is the "3rd Pursuit Sqdn." of the AVG (AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP), 3rd Flying Corps, which was secretly active as a volunteer army before the U.S. entered World War II.
The SQ patch on the left chest is made of leather craft, and on the back is the AVG's symbol, a tiger with wings.
