In the movie, Travis Bickle, as his madness intensifies, trains in his room for an assassination wearing a "U.S.MARINES" T-shirt that is worn inside out, making the print visible through the fabric. Similarly, this T-shirt uses a special manufacturing process that allows it to be worn inside out. The motif is the insignia of the Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance, known as Force Recon, sewn onto tanker jackets and M-65 field jackets. The phrase on the back, "Swift, Silent, Deadly," is a motto favored by the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
