TT15790-128 / TAILOR TOYO Late 1950s Style Acetate Souvenir Jacket SUKAJAN “ALASKAN EAGLE” × “DOG SLED”

An exceptionally rare and highly sought-after souvenir jacket featuring the iconic Alaska motif, commonly known as the “Alaska Jumper” or Alaska-Jan. The outer side is faithfully based on a late-1950s vintage original, with embroidery depicting lightning bolts and a polar bear on the chest, and a majestic scene on the back showing a bald eagle soaring above drifting sea ice with Mount McKinley in the background. Alaska, with its vast and unspoiled wilderness, has long been called “America’s Last Frontier”—a phrase proudly embroidered at the bottom of the back panel. Distinctive details include the tricolor body reminiscent of the Stars and Stripes, along with the signature triple stripes running down the sleeves, a hallmark of the Alaska Jumper style like.

The reversible side features a rare black-and-orange body, adorned with embroidery of traditional Alaskan houses and totem poles on the front, and on the back, a sweeping scene of the aurora borealis over the Alaska Range, complete with an Alaskan Husky dog sled team. This piece faithfully reproduces the souvenir jackets made in the 1950s by Kosho Shokai—the predecessor of Tailor Toyo—under commission from the U.S. military, sold at shops within Alaska’s military bases at the time.
