To bring out the full character of the “GL3,” a power loom manufactured by Toyota Automatic Loom Works half a century ago, every element of this original 15oz selvedge denim has been developed according to D’artisan’s own proprietary recipe. From the irregular shape and count of the yarns to the density of the warp and weft, each detail has been carefully designed to suit the unique qualities of the loom.
The result is the original “GL3 Denim,” a fabric with a distinctive uneven texture and a rugged, primitive feel—qualities that cannot be achieved with today’s efficient, uniform methods of mass-produced denim.
These jeans, made from this exceptional denim, have been dyed using Amami Oshima mud dyeing, a traditional technique handed down for generations on Amami Oshima.
Each pair is carefully dyed one by one using dye extracted from the teechi tree, which grows naturally on the island, together with iron-rich mud derived from geological layers formed more than 1.5 million years ago. The color is created through the power of nature itself, giving the denim a deep, warm, and richly layered tone that can never be replicated with artificial dyes.

The silhouette is a regular straight fit based on the SD-101 pattern.
It offers a timeless, easy-to-wear shape that can be worn and enjoyed for many years. Because the fabric is dyed using naturally derived coloring agents, it develops a depth and character that cannot be achieved through ordinary dyeing methods. With continued wear, the color, texture, and overall expression will gradually change, allowing you to enjoy a unique aging process that becomes richer over time.
