　Kawanabe Kyosai observed and sketched various things from his childhood. Known as a prolific painter, he worked in a wide range of genres, including paintings and prints as well as caricatures. He was also energetic, exhibiting many works at exhibitions called "Sho-ga-kai," which were held actively until the early Meiji period (1868-1912). In 1881, he published "Kyosai Manga," which is also the subject of this shirt. Although he was only 57 years old at the time of his death, his caricatures and cartoons, drawn with drawing ability and eccentric ideas that astonished even his masters, are considered to have laid the foundation for modern animation and cartoons, and are widely supported.

　In this design, the "Kyosai Manga" is printed using black as the base color and a gradation of subdued colors throughout. The aloha shirt depicts a skeleton emerging from the darkness. The scene of skeletons standing in various poses, drawn with a touch of dynamism, leaves a strong impression on the viewer.
