BR15329 / BUZZ RICKSON'S Type MA-1 1st MODEL 318th FTR.INTCP.SQ. "GREEN DRAGONS"

The 318th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, one of the three squadrons that first received the Air Force's ambitious supersonic jet fighter on March 2 1957, adopted the "Mach Wave" tail insignia on the aircraft to commemorate the occasion. The large back patch which is unusual for the Air Force, was manufactured and adopted because of its good reputation within the units. The squadron continued to serve as the Air Defence Command's prestigious squadron, rapidly deploying to Osan Base, South Korea, in response to North Korea's seizure of the USS Pueblo intelligence-gathering ship during the Vietnam War. The flying jacket features an uncommonly large back patch and stencil exuding the overflowing pride of the 318th FIS personnel.
