The 78th Fighter Bombardment Squadron was established in 1918 as a combat squadron and has been active for over a century to the present day.
In April 1954, the squadron was reorganized as the 78th Fighter Bombardment Squadron.
It then received the famous F-86F Sabre aircraft at Bentwaters R.Air Force Station in England.
Equipped with nuclear weapons, its primary mission was to provide tactical support to the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and NATO, and it was also responsible for air defense in Europe during the Cold War.
Generally, the design of the Skordrons had been updated in the early 1950s from the design that had been used since World War II, but this unit's design of the ferocious Cobra had remained unchanged since its founding.
The size of the patch is large, typical of the 50s, and the position in which it is worn is a glamorous custom with the wing insignia and scordrons on both chests.
