TT15878-119 / TAILOR TOYO Mid 1950s Style Acetate Souvenir Jacket “TIGER HEAD” × “CHEVY LOVER” (AGING MODEL)

This piece is based on the highly sought-after mid-1950s design commonly known as the “Tiger Head.” Among the many Tiger Head variations, this particular example is especially admired for its artistic quality. The tiger’s cheek fur and mane are rendered with an abundance of sweeping, undulating curves, giving the composition a striking sense of movement and vitality. Expressing such flowing lines through embroidery requires both exceptional technical skill and a painterly sense of composition, clearly revealing the hand of a highly accomplished artisan.
The reverse side features the design known as “Chevy Lover,” believed to have been custom ordered by an American serviceman with a passion for automobiles. “Chevy” is, of course, the familiar nickname for Chevrolet. The result is a hot rod-inspired sukajan that beautifully captures the spirit of America’s custom car culture of the era in embroidered form. Set against a matte green satin fabric whose sheen has been subdued through an aging process, the vivid embroidery stands out in even sharper contrast, giving the jacket an especially rich and dynamic presence.
