Marilyn Monroe became a national star when she appeared in the U.S. Army's official newspaper "YANK," but the Navy, not to be outdone, used her in a variety of public relations activities to boost the morale of its soldiers.
In 1952, she was given the title of "Ms. Torpedo.
She visited the U.S.S. HENLEY (DD-762), a destroyer ship, as part of the campaign.
