SS39272 / SUN SURF SPECIAL EDITION HAWAIIAN SHIRT “HAWAIIAN WONDERLAND”

Among vintage Aloha shirts, the Chopsuey pattern has been produced in large numbers. One of the most impactful and renowned designs is the "Hawaiian Wonderland." This design is highly popular among collectors and has been reissued under its original name for the second time. The shirt features popular motifs such as hula girls, Aloha Tower, King Kamehameha statue, Hawaiian crest, and fishermen. A bold banner with the words "HAWAIIAN WONDERLAND" runs through the center of the design, making it a highly collectible piece.

Marihini Sportswear Company, which created this piece, is a long-established Aloha shirt manufacturer founded in 1952. The owner, Raymond Sasaki, had a talent for art and showed a special dedication to his work. He employed dedicated designers to create designs based on his ideas. Even during the wartime fabric shortages, he contributed significantly to the history of Aloha shirts by printing fabric in his garage to meet the demands of longstanding department stores like Sears.

Aloha shirt - the garment that symbolizes the paradise called Hawaii. However, its origin has much to do with the Japanese immigrants to the islands, and thus the shirt designs range from tropical patterns to that of oriental. In the mid-20th century, when Hawaii became a popular tourism cite, Aloha shirts were in great demand as a souvenir. With this background did the designs become even more diverse, some of which still appear to this day as incredibly rare vintage. “Sun Surf Special Edition” has a high regard for these textile designers of the time, and it is dedicated to creating complete replicas of such exquisite vintage, by precisely mirroring such features as the multicolor and impressive patterns or the various use of fine details, many of which have tended to be lost over time.
