BR15746 / BUZZ RICKSON'S Type B-10 RED RIB VERSION 23rd Fighter Group “14th Air Force”

The Type B-10 was a fabric flight jacket adopted by the U.S. Army Air Forces in July 1943 as a replacement for the leather B-6 jacket, designed for mid-temperature ranges (+10°C to -10°C). During WWII, facing a severe shortage of leather, the Army reviewed production methods and developed a flight jacket made of cotton twill, suitable for mass production. The lining used alpaca mohair wool pile, which was less bulky and lighter than sheepskin yet highly insulating. Although the exterior resembled the “AN” series such as AN6552 or AN-J-3A used jointly by the Army and Navy, the Army Air Forces did not fully adopt the “AN” series for joint use. Instead, the B-10 was adopted as a new fabric jacket for mid-temperature use. This particular B-10 was produced by Superior Tog Company, contractor also for B-15, B-15A, and L-2A jackets, featuring an olive color with a striking contrast of red rib-knit cuffs, giving it a wild appearance.
