In the 1950s, many embroidery shops near U.S. military bases in Japan were renowned for their excellent embroidery techniques. American soldiers stationed in Japan frequently ordered custom “sukajan” (souvenir jackets) from these shops. The favorable exchange rate at the time made these elaborate embroideries affordable for soldiers. The 334th Fighter-Bomber Squadron of the 4th Fighter-Bomber Wing, stationed in Japan during the Korean War, is featured on this tour jacket. The front boasts the owner "Chuck’s" unit insignia, slightly different from the official patch, showcasing local craftsmanship. The rare embroidered year on the left sleeve and the detailed back embroidery with the F-86 Sabre, representing peace in Korea, America, and Japan, highlight the jacket’s historical significance. The reversible side features vibrant embroidery on a silver background, with a map of Japan and a Maiko (apprentice geisha) standing out. One of the city names on the map, HAGASAKI, should have been “NAGASAKI”, but the misspelling is duplicated exactly as it appears on the original vintage jacket.

“KOSHO & CO.” SPECIAL EDITION
The “Special Edition” collection is a superior version of Tailor Toyo Sukajan that is an absolute reproduction of vintage souvenir jackets originated in the early days of post WWII. The intricate artworks are depicted in details by the experienced craftsmen with the vintage embroidery machines. The 100% wool rib that is purposely knitted loose by the primitive knitting machine in the same manner the rib of vintage jackets was done. The zipper with two pullers meant for reversible jacket is duplicated by using the 50-year-old vintage fastener machines. The special jacket has a woven label of “Kosho & Co.” which is a predecessor company of Toyo Enterprise, all the details of the day built in.
