The traditional dyeing technique "Kakishibu Dyeing" has been handed down since the Heian period (794-1192) over 900 years ago. It is said to have originated in the Heian period when samurai and mountain priests wore reddish-brown clothes dyed with persimmon tannin. Because of its high disinfectant and deodorant properties, cloth dyed with persimmon tannin was used in Chinese herbal medicine and was also called "sun-dyeing" because the color changes and deepens when exposed to sunlight and air. This "KAKISHIBU SASHIKO Vest" is made of Kakishibu dyed yarn by Japanese traditional dyeing "Kakishibu Dyeing" produced by nature for the weft, and Kakishibu dyed indigo-yarn of the highest density for the warp. The warp is made of the most concentrated cassette-dyed indigo yarn. A chic vest with a bit of selvedge in places has been completed. By raising the number of strokes to the utmost limit, a thicker fabric with the original unevenness of stitching is reproduced. The expression created by the puffiness of the threads and the thickness of the fabric, which appears to be made up of multiple layers, creates a feel and texture that is unique to sashiko textiles. The overlapping colors of persimmon tannin and indigo are "Japanese colors" that combine gentleness, depth, and elegance. |
