As Sun Surf’s coveted *Special Edition* series, “Sasatora” design returns in its very first reissue.
Celebrated in numerous overseas reference books on vintage Aloha shirts?and immortalized on screen when Sam Melville’s character “Bear” wore it in the film *Big Wednesday*?this pattern enjoys a long-standing reputation among collectors. Although an original rayon *habutae* version exists, this release recreates an exceptionally rare model made from crepe-textured rayon *kabe-chirimen*. Every hallmark of the period is painstakingly restored, from the hand-stitched short-point collar to the neatly turned-back cuffs and other distinctive vintage sewing techniques.

The original shirt was produced in the 1950s by **Artvogue of California**, a label renowned for its sports shirts?Aloha and bowling styles foremost among them. Artvogue’s bold use of color blocking, meticulous construction, and uniquely artistic woven labels set it apart in its day and continue to captivate today’s vintage aficionados.

SUN SURF SPECIAL EDITION
Aloha shirt - the garment that symbolizes the paradise called Hawaii. However, its origin has much to do with the Japanese immigrants to the islands, and thus the shirt designs range from tropical patterns to that of oriental. In the mid-20th century, when Hawaii became a popular tourism cite, Aloha shirts were in great demand as a souvenir. With this background did the designs become even more diverse, some of which still appear to this day as incredibly rare vintage. “Sun Surf Special Edition” has a high regard for these textile designers of the time, and it is dedicated to creating complete replicas of such exquisite vintage, by precisely mirroring such features as the multicolor and impressive patterns or the various use of fine details, many of which have tended to be lost over time.
