A signature design by ARTVOGUE of California, known for its back panel pattern that uses the entire back as a canvas. The work features divers fishing in a coral reef sea, depicted with a unique touch. The material is a blend of rayon and cotton, crafted into a slub yarn with a textured finish, and woven into a coarse hopsack fabric. By analyzing vintage fabrics, they have faithfully recreated the impressive look of the original. There are also works made in California with the same pattern and material, confirming that the fabric was sourced from Kohama, a major textile manufacturer that supplied the brand, adding historical value to the piece.
ARTVOGUE, which emerged in the late 1940s, created numerous back panel patterns, establishing it as a staple design pattern. Additionally, they produced Oriental design Aloha shirts and bowling shirts with tiger patterns, gaining a wide customer base. The textile designs for the brand, including this pattern, were created by Wolfgang Wolf, a Post-Impressionist painter like Paul Gauguin. Born in the border region between France and Germany, he moved to Tahiti in 1934, producing many works themed around Polynesia.

Aloha shirt - the garment that symbolizes the paradise called Hawaii. However, its origin has much to do with the Japanese immigrants to the islands, and thus the shirt designs range from tropical patterns to that of oriental. In the mid-20th century, when Hawaii became a popular tourism cite, Aloha shirts were in great demand as a souvenir. With this background did the designs become even more diverse, some of which still appear to this day as incredibly rare vintage. “Sun Surf Special Edition” has a high regard for these textile designers of the time, and it is dedicated to creating complete replicas of such exquisite vintage, by precisely mirroring such features as the multicolor and impressive patterns or the various use of fine details, many of which have tended to be lost over time.
