In the early 1940s, as the United States was engaged in World War II, national resources had to be concentrated toward the war effort. As part of this policy, the War Production Board introduced strict regulations on the manufacturing of civilian consumer goods, including clothing.
In particular, cotton and metal components used for garments—such as rivets and buttons—were prioritized for military use, and workwear, including jeans, was greatly affected by these restrictions. Under the guidance of the Board, details considered non-essential or excessive were thoroughly eliminated. Rivets were simplified, the rivets on the watch pocket were removed, and decorative arcuate stitching was replaced with printed or painted versions. As a result, many parts of the jeans were drastically simplified as wartime specifications, giving them a more rugged, purely functional character.
At the same time, many skilled sewing workers had been reassigned to military production. It was therefore common for less-experienced workers to be placed on jeans production lines. As a result, the sewing quality of the period was often rough, with uneven stitching, wavering seams, and small distortions. However, even re-sewing was restricted during wartime, and such irregularities were often shipped as they were.

With this historical background in mind, these jeans carefully reproduce the raw, utilitarian sewing specifications and simplified details of the era. The intentionally uneven stitch work and subtle distortions in construction have been recreated not as flaws, but as part of the character of wartime workwear. For this model, a specially developed 16.0oz selvedge denim has been used to express the slightly oxidized, muted indigo-blue tone and the dry, rough texture distinctive to jeans of that period.
The top button is made from iron and features a laurel wreath design. With wear, it will gradually develop natural rust and aging, adding further depth to the garment over time. The silhouette is a 101-style regular straight fit.

Please enjoy Studio D’artisan’s unique interpretation of the classic WWII model.
