In order to meet the growing demand for aloha shirts as gifts in line with the development of Hawaii's tourism industry, many brands focused on developing their own unique patterns. This led to an increase in the number of brands that invited textile designers from Japan and the U.S. mainland to Hawaii and reflected their local experiences in their designs. Kamehameha Garment Company, which created this pattern, was one of the brands that had a special focus on aloha shirt design. The motif is the trumpet vine (nouvellus), a common sight in Hawaii, and the detailed depiction sharply expresses the characteristics of the flower in a highly finished work.
