The original was produced by "Waikikian," a long-established brand established in downtown Honolulu before the war. Monochromatic border patterns such as the one used in this shirt are traditional patterns that can be seen from the very beginning of the history of the aloha shirt, and were introduced to Hawaii from Tahiti and other places. Particularly popular at that time was the design used in the Tahitian folk costume "pareu," which was an abstract floral pattern dyed in white. The design pattern had long been used in France, but it was brought to Tahiti, a colony of France, and later became established in Hawaii as the pattern for aloha shirts, and many patterns were created. Title of work: "TAHITIAN PRINT" Vintage: WAIKIKIAN Date: Late 1940s Material: Filament rayon Print: Extracted print Design pattern: Border pattern |
