tt15976-119
TT15976-119 / TAILOR TOYO Early 1950s Style Acetate Souvenir Jacket “ROARING TIGER” × “GOLD DRAGON” (AGING MODEL)

This early 1950s-style piece features a yellow tiger that stands out vividly against matte black satin, its luster subdued through an aging process. Among the many tiger motifs found on vintage souvenir jackets, this design is especially rare, depicting the full body of the tiger from a true side profile. The use of two different shades of white embroidery thread for the mane, eyes, fangs, and claws follows the intricate detailing seen on original vintage pieces. Further adding to its appeal are the block-lettered “JAPAN” embroidery and the unusually large eagle-and-tiger motifs on the chest—details that are highly regarded among vintage collectors.
The reversible side presents a magnificent design of a golden dragon soaring across a blue body reminiscent of a clear sky. Its composition, making full use of open space, has a refined quality reminiscent of traditional Japanese painting. The dragon-and-tiger chest embroideries are rendered with a tasteful degree of stylization, reflecting the distinctive sensibility and craftsmanship of the artisans of the period.
