tt15982-145
TT15982-145 / TAILOR TOYO Mid 1950s Style Acetate Souvenir Jacket “LANDSCAPE” × “EAGLE” (AGING MODEL)

Set against a faded green body that evokes the atmosphere of true vintage wear, this mid-1950s landscape design depicts scenes of Japan in colorful embroidery threads, including shades of blue and pink. The motif captures a winter landscape: Mount Fuji and a sailing boat are embroidered on the chest, while the back features a dragon, an oriental pagoda, and a deer standing quietly at the base of a pine tree. For American servicemen of the time, the sukajan was more than just a souvenir jacket; it was also a captivating landscape painting of Japan, something they would want to take back home.
The reversible side features an embroidered eagle gliding over the sea in search of prey. Rather than pursuing strict realism, the artwork is tastefully stylized, revealing the distinctive sensibility of the craftsmen of that era. The chest is also embroidered with stylized dragon and tiger motifs, bringing together the three iconic sukajan themes: the eagle, the tiger, and the dragon. The result is a richly detailed and highly desirable piece.
