Rivets were reduced or simplified, rivets on watch pockets were removed, and arcuate stitching was replaced with printed or painted markings. As a result, jeans of this period were dramatically stripped down into wartime specifications, taking on a rugged, purely utilitarian character.\u003cbr\u003eAt the same time, many experienced sewing operators had been reassigned to military production, and garment factories were often staffed by inexperienced workers. This led to rougher construction, uneven stitching, and visible distortions in the sewing?features that were far from uncommon at the time.
